What is personality?

Tandem’s personality setting controls how it writes — the tone, style, level of detail, and humor in its responses. By default, Tandem is warm and direct. You can customize this to match your preferences.

Setting your personality

From Settings → Personality in the app, or from the CLI: 
# See your current setting
tandem personality show

# Set it in one command
tandem personality set "Be direct and terse. Skip pleasantries. Just tell me what I need to know."

# Edit interactively
tandem personality edit

# Clear back to Tandem's default
tandem personality clear

Examples

Formal and professional: 
Write formally. Use complete sentences and professional language. No contractions or slang.
Casual and punchy: 
Be casual. Short sentences. Talk like a real person. No corporate-speak.
Direct and minimal: 
Be extremely terse. No filler. State facts only. Skip all pleasantries and affirmations.
With personality: 
Be warm and a little funny. Dry wit is welcome. Keep it practical but not boring.

How it applies

Your personality setting applies to all AI interactions in Tandem — task planning conversations, the Today summary, and any AI-assisted updates. It does not affect the structured data in your tasks (titles, deadlines, subtasks).
