What is a template?
A template is a saved snapshot of a chain — all its tasks, subtasks, notes, links, and structure — that you can clone and reuse whenever you need to run the same sequence again. Templates are useful for recurring multi-step processes: onboarding a client, organizing an event, launching a product, or any workflow you run more than once.Saving a chain as a template
- Open a chain from the /chains page
- Click Save as template in the header
- Fill in the template details:
- Name — what to call this template (pre-filled with the chain name)
- Description — optional context about when to use it
- AI generalize — Tandem rewrites task titles and notes to remove specifics (names, quantities, proper nouns) and replace them with generic roles. For example, “Order 8 centerpieces for Alex’s wedding” becomes “Order centerpieces for the event.” Use this when you want a template others can use for different contexts.
- Permissions — who can see and use the template:
- Only me — private
- Connections — visible to your Tandem connections
- Share link — anyone with the link can use it
- Max uses (share link only) — limit how many times the template can be cloned. Leave blank for unlimited.
